Like many companies in France which supply company vehicles to some of their employees, Cheops Technology is gradually electrifying its fleet. Its history with the electric car, however, goes back a little further.
At Cheops Technology, more than 500 employees are spread over a dozen agencies across France. Specializing in secure IT infrastructures, the company provides 140 of its employees with a vehicle that they can use 24/7 for their professional and personal activities.
Diesel and gasoline models are gradually being phased out in favor of electrified engines. The management set an example very early on, not hesitating to use electricity as a reward to motivate salespeople.
An electric as a reward
« What did I do wrong to deserve this! “. This is what employees of communities and companies could give up more than 15 years ago when they received a car or an electric utility within the framework of their work. It is true that the Renault Clio and Kangoo, Citroën Berlingo and Saxo, Peugeot 106 and Partner, equipped with nickel-cadmium batteries, were not very salivating.
The restricted speeds and the hard-to-achieve autonomy of 80 kilometers were experienced as very important constraints, even as punishments.
But in 2015, at Cheops Technology, under the leadership of Nicolas Leroy-Fleuriot, a leader seduced by the first truly convincing electric and plug-in hybrids, salespeople could on the contrary feel a certain envy in front of such a prospect.
The loan of a Tesla Roadster
For the first time in 2015 at Cheops Technology, a Tesla Roadster was made available, for a month, to the salesperson who achieved the best figures. A challenge that lasted a few years.
« The Tesla remains a cute car, but electric vehicles are less rare today », Comments Françoise Fleuriot, head of the vehicle fleet. From now on, the company, whose head office is located in Canéjan, on the outskirts of Bordeaux, is gradually electrifying the cars handed over to its staff.
50 cars to be replaced in 2021
« This year, we have a big renewal to do. We rent our cars for a period of 3 years. Either with partner organizations of a manufacturer, or with Arval, which offers multi-brand offers », Confides Françoise Fleuriot.
« We have selected 26 petrol, diesel, hybrid – rechargeable or not – and electric models that our employees can choose from. There is a price threshold that must not be exceeded. Beyond that, the difference is deducted each month on the payslip She continues.
« As simple hybrids, we offer the Toyota Yaris, C-HR, Corolla in estate or sedan, and Renault Clio. For rechargeable: Kia Niro, Seat Leon, Ford Kuga, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Skoda Octavia sedan or station wagon. On the electric side, we have the Mini Cooper SE, Hyundai Kona, Kia e-Niro, Peugeot e-2008 and Volkswagen ID.3 », List our interlocutor.
A compatibility to study
« We conduct a personalized study for each employee. An electric car can only be used under certain conditions: distance between home and business, use of highways, annual mileage carried out for the company and in a personal capacity, etc. », Reveals Françoise Fleuriot.
« We know that in a very short time we will no longer be able to use diesel in cities. Today, employees mainly choose hybrid models and plug-in hybrids. It’s the fear of getting stuck somewhere that dissuades them from going electric », She explains.
« The management has BMW i3 and i8. We have already delivered plug-in hybrid Volkswagen Tiguan which were offered to us at attractive conditions, as well as 3 or 4 electric Mini », She moderates.
The start of a conversion
« At Cheops Technology, we are in the early stages of converting our fleet. I only think good about the use of electric vehicles », Emphasizes the fleet manager. She still asks herself a few questions. Particularly concerning the recycling of batteries. She hopes the builders anticipate the subject.
« Even if motorists are still fearful, the switch to electric will accelerate. Those who have taken the plunge do not regret it at all. One of our employees goes to the head office every day from the Arcachon basin with an electric Mini. She is delighted. She takes the highway and considers that she has sufficient range with this car. Another, living in the suburbs of Bordeaux, chose the same model which also suits his situation She cites as an example.
Rental companies still on the reserve
« In the head office car park, we have just installed 6 new upgradeable 7 kW terminals, in addition to the 2 already existing Says Françoise Fleuriot.
« Long-term rental companies are still on the fence about electric and plug-in hybrid cars. Their prices remain high for these models. This can be understood, because after 3 years of rental, they will take back the vehicles and will have to find outlets for them. », She believes. ” Maybe next year they will be more confident. What will likely be felt on their offers She hopes.
Automobile Propre and I would like to thank Françoise Fleuriot for the time taken to answer our questions. A big thank you also to Benjamin Servan who proposed the subject to us and facilitated the connection with Cheops Technology.
