The competitors of the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 (A2)

The new Triumph Tiger Sport 660 will reshuffle the maps of the road segment approved for the A2 license. This bike, in the form of a road trail, could be of interest to those who were eyeing the Yamaha Tracer 700, the Kawasaki Versys 650 and others. Simple, easy, not sad motorcycles for everyday riding and traveling.

Triumph Tiger Sport 660, in a few words: versatility objective!

It is a Trident 660 platform that Triumph has worked on to increase its versatility and improve road capabilities. The fairing of the fork crown, with manually adjustable screen will boost the protection. The suspensions are modified. The motorcycle can benefit from new accessories. The new Triumph Tiger Sport 660 is manufactured by Triumph Thailand and its presentation quality is intended to be very high, but it is not that cheap despite being manufactured in Asia. It is guaranteed for 2 years and claims workshop visits every 16,000 km (annual visit maintained). It is eligible for category A2 via clamping.

Yamaha Tracer 700 (A2 compatible): the most Frenchie of the jap ‘is the most fun

It is clearly one, even THE, target designated by the novelty of Triumph. The Yamaha Tracer 700 is now well established in the world of A2 homologated road vehicles trend “road trail”. Trail for the elevated position, Road because it has 17-inch rims, road tires and has no off-road pretension. It is a playful motorcycle, quite simply the most playful of the category to the point of being the darling of fans of free ride in Y as we can see it every day on social networks. No wonder with its MT-07 genetics, punchy CP2 twin-cylinder engine and light weight. This twin cylinder remains full of pleasure, even restricted in version A2 and consumes little (less than 5l / 100 km while driving cool). Imperfect in suspensions, it remains healthy, but moves on the attack and bounces on degraded surfaces. It also sags, somewhat, in a duet. The GT Version, € 9,799, is a good deal with its windshield as ugly as it is very protective and its city suitcases, ideal for a single traveler. It is assembled in France, in the Yamaha exMBK factory in Aisne (02), the engine comes directly from Japan, the motorcycle is assembled in France. Classic 2-year warranty.

BMW F750GS (A2 compatible): more unknown than unloved

The BMW F750GS is one of the relatively unknown models of the German manufacturer. A GS that obviously lives in the shadow of the R1250GS, so charismatic. The F750GS is eligible for category A2 and is positioned as a road trail. It shines with its unparalleled ease of driving (handling, city, what ease!) And its impressive chassis of efficiency and stability. It is a good road, except at the level of the protection of series, too weak. There are accessories to remedy this. The parallel twin engine is rather unobtrusive. It remains effective in version A2. It is very fuel efficient (no problem less than 4.5 l / 100 km when driving normally). It is guaranteed for 2 years. It is assembled in Asia like its cousin F850GS. Like all BMWs, it can receive many options, also grouped together in the form of packs. The price then soars.

Kawasaki Versys 650 (A2 compatible): Protection, comfort, reliability above all

The Kawasaki Versys 650 changes slightly in 2022. Appearance, dashboard, small changes to remain attractive. This market is hotly contested and the Triumph should take effect. The Kawasaki Versys 650 is an example of everyday versatility, comfort and reliability at this level of the range. The engine, the in-line twin engine known since the first ER-6N, is available, reliable… In short, it does the job, but without fun. The bike is above all comfortable and can take a couple on vacation without any problem thanks to the Tourer and Grand Tourer kit. With the speed limits, it makes sense against the Versys 1000 cm3.

Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT (A2 compatible): a 7/7 adventurer

The Suzuki V-Strom 650 (XT or standard) continues its career in 2022, without major evolutions. It is undoubtedly a good bike, reliable, efficient, really versatile. Certainly, on the presentation side, it is starting to look old … It’s a fact. It clearly remains in the game on the benefits side. It is very easy to drive, comfortable on the road, still healthy and fairly well suspended for the category. Its flexible, round motor remains remarkable in the A2 version. We can’t find any real flaws in it apart from its somewhat dated style and the lack of enthusiasm it displays in sporty driving. Drive fast, why not three bends, but it is better for cutting kiosk. It is guaranteed for 2 years, assembled in Japan, and yes, there are Japanese motorcycles manufactured on Japanese territory.

Honda NC750X DCT (A2 compatible): the atypical and practical NC750X DCT invites you to take a bucolic stroll

We tested the Honda NC750X DCT on video this year, with a road trip in Brittany and Normandy as a result… What to recognize the atypical and excellent qualities of this very special motorcycle in production. Its parallel twin engine abandons the sporty extension in favor of a perfectly linear and smooth torque in touring driving. It is a peaceful motorcycle and consumes less than 3.5 l / 100 km while driving quietly, but very efficient part-cycle with a low center of gravity which erases its weight. What regret to have cut it by a few cm in suspension travel, but its saddle only peaks at 800 mm. The helmet box, the DCT box, intelligent and full of pleasure, make it a completely unrivaled motorcycle. We don’t hang out or we love the overall concept. A great tour de force from Honda in terms of technology and technical choices. It is A2 approved, with a conclusive clamping. Notable argument, its 5-year warranty.

By 2022, the standard CF Moto MT800 at around € 9,000 could be added to this list…. And do you see there another possible competitor?
