The RX2e continues to attract new names. Thus, during the next WorldRX in Belgium, three women drivers will be at the start in the promotion formula of the World Rallycross Championship. A rally driver, a Rallycross driver and a famous biker from the Dakar! Here is something to reinforce the attractiveness of the Belgian round of the WorldRX!
Rallycross: Klara Andersson, Christine Giampaoli Zonca and Laia Sanz arrive in RX2e!
Since Ramona Karlsson’s departure at the end of 2015 the World Rallycross Championship clearly lacks female faces. It is therefore a real pleasure to learn that not one but three women will be at the start of the Belgian round of the WorldRX on October 9 and 10. Thus, Klara Andersson, Christine Giampaoli Zonca and Laia Sanz come to swell the ranks of RX2e which will be the penultimate round of the season.
First of all it is Klara Andersson which will make its world debut. The 21-year-old Swede will swap her usual BMW 1 Series for the RX2e electric car. This is her first official outing behind the wheel of an electric car but it should be noted that she got to test STARD’s Fiesta Projekt-E last November. Klara is of course very excited to make her debut at Spa: “It’s amazing to be able to drive an RX2e at Spa, and to get a glimpse of what could be the next step in my career. The RX2e appears to be a thrilling new series that offers some insight into the direction the sport is heading. I am very enthusiastic. Rallycross is my biggest passion in life. And if I can do what I love in a more sustainable way, I’m all for it. I have dreamed of participating in a World Rallycross Championship event for a long time! And, making this dream come true on the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit is the chance of my life! ”
If you’re following Extreme E his name must speak to you. Christine Giampaoli Zonca (known as “Christine GZ”) is a Spanish rally driver who has been working in Rally Raid since 2018. This Can-Am brand ambassador is Oliver Bennett’s teammate in Extreme E. Christine GZ will therefore discover the Rallycross via its electric category at Spa. The smiling and bubbly pilot is already eager to tackle a new discipline: “I can’t wait to participate in this event! I’ve never raced in rallycross before, but when I tested the RX2e car it looked fantastic to me! I am excited to begin !”
Finally, the “best motorcycle rider” in the history of the Dakar will discover Rallycross in Spa! Indeed, Laia Sanz has confirmed her presence for the fifth meeting of WorldRX 2021. The Spaniard had already mentioned her wish to ride in Rallycross a few months ago. It is therefore in Spa, and in RX2e, that the GAS pilot will take the plunge! In addition to being Carlos Sainz’s teammate in Extreme E, Laia also has quite a track record on two wheels: 11 times Trial world champion and 5 times in the Enduro category. She also has 11 participations (current series) in the Dakar to her credit, including a 9th place in 2015. A new challenge for Laia who is eager to start: “It’s really good to have the chance to participate in a Rallycross and moreover in the world. “I’m still a beginner in this four-wheeled world, so it will be a very interesting experience – back to school for me – because I’m not used to contacting opponents or fighting with other cars in same time. I have to find my marks quickly, because we won’t have a lot of laps to learn. I have fond memories of Spa – I did a few test races there, and it is an iconic place. So it will be really great to compete there again and the main objective is to make the most of it. ”
the Rallycross de Spa will take place next week, October 8-10. Klara Andersson, Christine Giampaoli Zonca and Laia Sanz will join favorites Guillaume De Ridder, Conner Martell, Jesse Kallio, Pablo Suarez and Isak Sjökvist.
