During the holiday season, the Covid-19 pandemic continues to progress. The departments of Nouvelle-Aquitaine have exceeded the maximum alert threshold level for the incidence rate and more than half of the intensive care beds are occupied by infected patients.

The incidence rate in France exceeds the “maximum alert” threshold of 250, called scarlet red by the authorities. Indeed, the average of this indicator exploded according to the latest figures of December 23, going from 568 to 712.2 people infected per 100,000 inhabitants in three days. In New Aquitaine, the incidence rate is on the rise with 467.4 cases on December 23, against 386 on December 20. Levels that exceed the incidence rate of November 2020, during the second confinement.

The Omicron variant is not the majority in France with 17.5% of suspected cases according to “Covid Tracker” but the number of positive cases is exploding. 68,289 people were diagnosed positive every day in France on a weekly average, according to figures from December 23. An increasing number. With over 16,300 hospitalizations linked to the coronavirus, the figures reveal 162 daily deaths from Covid-19. That is, 30 more daily deaths compared to last week.

Incidence rate: the Gironde exceeds 640

With this incidence rate of 467 cases detected over one week per 100,000 inhabitants, an increase of 21.1% over three days, the region has largely exceeded the maximum alert threshold which is 250.
