After being shown in a promotional video, but also in a few leaks, the Oppo Find N is now officially unveiled. In general terms, the Oppo Find N uses the same philosophy as a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. We are indeed dealing with a device in smartphone format capable of opening like a book to turn into a tablet thanks to a internal screen that folds.

There is, however, a major difference … the size of the smartphone.

The small external screen of the Oppo Find N

This is because the Oppo Find N is small when it is folded up. With an external AMOLED display of just 5.49 inches, the smartphone is only 132.6mm tall. It’s barely bigger than an iPhone 13 mini. In other words, the device is really trying to make it look compact and easy to stow in the pocket and that is a big argument against Samsung.

Why ? In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 offers a long and very narrow external display that is not always easy to use comfortably. Here, with a screen with a very content format and a fairly standard 18: 9 ratio, users could enjoy a more pleasant, easier experience. Moreover, the idea of a very small and practical smartphone to store in the pocket is a rather attractive idea. Exploiting the folding format to offer a very small device and another on the big screen in a single product is rather relevant to meet different uses.

Unfortunately, this observation is balanced by two things that Oppo has failed to avoid. On the one hand, the Find N displays 275 grams on the scale, which is a tad more than the Z Fold 3. On the other hand, when it is folded, its thickness reaches 15.9 mm all the same and it does not so is not so easy to store it in a small pocket. But the initiative remains interesting and shows that Samsung can have a lot of competition.

Note also some important information on the internal screen of the Oppo Find N, the one that folds. It benefits from a diagonal of 7.1 inches, an almost square format, an AMOLED display also, a definition of 1792 x 1920 pixels (370 ppi) and a variable refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz. The external panel is satisfied with a refresh at 60 Hz and a definition of 1972 x 988 pixels (402 ppi).

Getting back to the internal screen, Oppo guarantees 200,000 damage-free folds, which is equivalent to just over 180 folds per day for three years. Oppo also evokes a greatly attenuated fold so that it does not feel too much under the finger and that it remains discreet to the eyes. It’s a safe bet that the manufacturer is getting its supplies from Samsung. We also find on the Find N the same folding screen technology as on the Z Fold 3 with a very thin layer of glass (UTG) wedged in the middle of the layers of plastic to improve resistance.

On the camera, for example, you can have the preview on the upper half and the interaction buttons on the lower half.

Another feature that is also found at Samsung: if you take a picture of someone, you can activate an image feedback on the external screen so that the person can see themselves and take the best pose.
