The “freedom convoy”: the movement of anti-vaccination pass truckers is trying to establish itself in France

After Canada, the “freedom convoys” – an anti-vaccine pass road movement – are trying to establish themselves in France. A broad appeal was launched on social networks, with the objective of driving in Paris on Friday February 11.

In mid-January, Canada and the United States agreed to impose the control of the vaccination pass when crossing the border. A decision strongly criticized, in particular by certain truck drivers.

The movement was born among Canadian truckers

A few dozen truckers then decided to rally Ottawa from Vancouver to make their anger heard. A movement that has gained momentum in Canada. It now brings together thousands of drivers under the banner of “freedom convoys”.

The blocking of the regional capital, Ottawa, was widely relayed on social networks. And the movement has been emulated in Europe, especially in France. A date has even been set for “rolling in Paris”: February 11.

A vast appeal launched in France

A Facebook page has even been created. This Friday, February 4, it already federated nearly 200,000 members. Convoys from Brest, Lille or even Metz, but also Toulouse and Avignon, are already planned.

In France, the movement is open to all citizens. He intends to mobilize “all citizens to recover their freedom, their fundamental rights, unconditional access to healthcare, education and culture, and to stop the sacrifice of children and young people”, can we read on the dedicated Facebook page.

A demonstration in Paris, then in Brussels

The convoys should start on Wednesday February 11, to converge in the capital on Friday evening February 11. Participants are then invited to continue to Brussels, where the organizers are hoping for a large European gathering on February 14.

According to general information, quoted by FranceInfo, the French “freedom convoys” were born from the opposition to the vaccination pass, but also take up many demands made by the Yellow Vests.
