The degraded square Samuel-Paty plaque in Paris

Two months after its inauguration in tribute to the murdered professor, the plaque in Square Samuel-Paty located in Paris, opposite the Sorbonne, has been degraded.. “The reference to character islamist of the terrorist act committed against Samuel Paty ” has been “Bomb blasted”, indicated Tuesday, December 21 the mayor (DVD) of the Ve arrondissement, Florence Berthout, denouncing a “Unacceptable degradation”.

“Wanting to suppress the Islamist character of this heinous act is unbearable”added Mme Berthout, who indicates that he has filed a complaint. The services of the City of Paris restored the plaque on Tuesday, she said.

“The Samuel Paty plaque, victim of terrorism, has been degraded”, tweeted in the afternoon Emmanuel Grégoire, first deputy PS of the mayor PS Anne Hidalgo, denouncing an act “Unacceptable” and announcing that the City will also file a complaint.

“Willful blindness”

The square had been inaugurated on October 16, one year to the day after the attack which had cost the life of the professor, and in the presence in particular of his family, Anne Hidalgo and the ministers of education, Jean-Michel Blanquer , and higher education, Frédérique Vidal.

The beheading of Samuel Paty, 47, on October 16, 2020 near his college in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines) by Abdoullakh Anzorov, a young radicalized who accused him of having shown caricatures of Muhammad to his students, had aroused considerable emotion.
