The Bordeaux public prosecutor’s office destroyed “by mistake”, “as part of a seal clearance plan in 2019”, phone tapping incriminating Moufide Bouchibi, tried on appeal for drug trafficking, reports France Bleu Gironde on Tuesday 14 December.
It was the general counsel of the Bordeaux Court of Appeal who made this announcement during the trial, awhen the defense lawyers demanded the broadcast of the telephone tapping in question implicating their client.
The defendant’s lawyers denounced “a serious dysfunction”. Moufide Bouchibi, who is currently imprisoned in the Gradignan prison (Gironde) “formally denies having been the speaker identified by the police”, who were investigating a series of go-fast in the late 2000s. According to the defense, this legal twist is similar to “science fiction”, and according to them illustrates the absence of tangible evidence incriminating their client.
Moufide Bouchibi was sentenced in September 2021 to 16 years in prison and more than 6 million euros in fines for importing several tonnes of cannabis into France. The one presented as “the king of hash” is tried before the Bordeaux Court of Appeal untilto Wednesday 15 December.
