Presidential 2022: Jean-Marie Le Pen now ready to let go of his daughter for Eric Zemmour

POLITICS – A menhir hit in the back. In an interview in the world this Saturday, October 2, Jean-Marie Le Pen said he was ready to support Éric Zemmour against his daughter during the 2022 presidential election, while the polemicist is now given just behind Marine Le Pen in a poll.

Gone are the not so distant days when the founder of the late Front National estimated that the polemicist condemned several times for inciting hatred had “not the size” to run for the Elysee. Seven months before the presidential election, Jean-Marie Le Pen’s position on a possible candidacy of Eric Zemmour has changed. So much so that he now says he is ready to support him “if Eric is the best placed national camp candidate”.

This is not yet the case, since Eric Zemmour is not yet a candidate anyway. But the hypothesis is consolidating, and Marine Le Pen appears threatened: for the first time, an Ipsos Sopra Steria survey for franceinfo and The Parisian gave the former journalist and columnist in third place in voting intentions with 15%, just behind the declared candidate of the RN at 16%.

Zemmour’s “refreshing” speech according to Le Pen

This does not seem to surprise Jean-Marie Le Pen: “Marine has abandoned its fortified positions and Eric is occupying the land she left”, he says. Moreover, he recognizes himself in the words of the polemicist: “He (Zemmour, Editor’s note) climbed onto the barricade saying things that no one dared to say, except me. He says what I think, but with a larger audience ”, adds Le Pen in The world.

Same agreement on the role of Pétain during the Second World War. “It was not Pétain the boss, he defended the French Jews and delivered the foreigners”, assures Jean-Marie Le Pen, defending an Eric Zemmour tried and released for having presented Pétain as the “savior” of the French Jews. “The Menhir” himself already condemned for contesting a crime against humanity finds the speech of the polemicist “refreshing”.

The similarity of the speeches between Le Pen father and Zemmour has not escaped the current RN executives, who firmly reject them. Radicality is “a score that Jean-Marie Le Pen played for a long time and that Éric Zemmour plays today”, affirmed on October 1 Jordan Bardella, acting boss of the party, in an interview with Figaro. Before adding:This radicalism, we do not want to go back. We will not return to the National Front. ”

However, the support of the patriarch of the Le Pen family for the polemicist may well revive tensions with his daughter. Especially after the failure of the regional, where Jean-Marie Le Pen had already called on his successor to “get back to basics” to avoid “the disappearance” of the party.
