Joel Embiid makes the Wizards crack | NBA

After four losses in five matches, the Sixers find some colors by winning 117-96 on the floor of the Wizards. It must be said that Washington was deprived of Bradley Beal and that Joel Embiid had decided to strike hard and fast. The Cameroonian scored 13 points in the first quarter to resist the Harrell-Dinwiddie duo. By himself, Joel Embiid scores more points than all his teammates put together …

It is in the second quarter that Philly lays the first foundations of its domination with the awakening of its shooters (Korkmaz, Niang, Curry…). Opposite, Spencer Dinwiddie lacks support, and it is Tobias Harris who allows Philly to join the locker room with an eight point lead (63-55).

The Sixers ‘steamroller is on, and Doc Rivers’ players sign a 15-0 to take the lead (80-59). Joel Embiid raised the tone in defense, and Matisse Thybulle continues to muzzle Spencer Dinwiddie. The Sixers just have to manage the end of the game, and it is marked by the double collision between Joel Embiid and Montrezl Harrell. It is the pivot of Washington who cracks, and who joins the locker room before everyone else.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

The expulsion of Montrezl Harrell. At the end of the third quarter, Montrezl Harrell and Joel Embiid clashed for the first time, each collecting a technical fault. Thirty seconds later, Montrezl Harrell slightly pushes Joel Embiid after an And-1, and the Cameroonian adds a little. The referees decide it deserves a technical foul, and they send Washington inside to the locker room!

The defense of Matisse Thybulle. You really have to see the games to understand the impact the Sixers defender has on a game. His stat sheet is meager, but he was the one who took care of Spencer Dinwiddie, and the Wizards point guard only shone when his bodyguard was resting.

Joël Ayayi’s first points. Nice Christmas present for the Frenchman who scores his first points in the NBA.

TOPS/FLOPS

✅ Joel Embiid. He is the Joel Embiid of last season, indispensable to his family and domineering. His first quarter is remarkable, but it is that we will remember, more than his 36 points and 13 rebounds, it is his defensive involvement after returning from the locker room. It was when he started defending that Philly made the break with several easy baskets.

✅ Tobias Harris. We finally find the real Harris, easy and efficient. None of his opponents managed to stop him. Too big for the full backs and too quick for the inside, he put in a great game, and Sixers fans no doubt enjoyed seeing him so involved in the rebound struggle.

⛔ Montrezl Harrell. Each time the Wizards come on, the Wizards are getting better, and we clearly saw that at the end of the first quarter. Unfortunately, his defense remains very suspect, and this night, he leaves his teammates fifteen minutes from the end. The gap was already made, but this is not the first time that he has cracked.
