It was an unusual start to a political show. The LR presidential candidate, Valérie Pécresse, assured Tuesday January 18 that “the law of silence” in terms of violence against women, “It’s finish”. She was speaking at the start of “La France dans les yeux”, the new BFMTV program presented by Jean-Jacques Bourdin, which is the subject of an investigation by the Paris prosecutor’s office following a complaint filed for attempted of sexual assault.

Emphasizing that she had “clearly asked the question” of his participation in the show, the candidate assured that the fight against sexual harassment and violence against women was “a personal fight”. “Very clearly these accusations, if true, are serious and must be condemned”, she added. “Too long society has looked the other way, closed its eyes” and “too many women were afraid to file a complaint”. “For speech to be freed, women must feel supported. With me, they will be”, she promised.

Valérie Pécresse nevertheless assured that “it is of course up to the courts to decide” by adding : “I respect the presumption of innocence to which each of our compatriots is entitled”. The journalist assured “contest[r] the facts reported by the press”.
