Eric Ciotti and Valérie Pécresse on their way to the second round

The results were announced forty minutes after the end of the online vote, by Christian Jacob, president of the Les Républicains (LR) party. Michel Barnier came third in the vote with a total of 23.93% of the vote, when Xavier Bertrand achieved 22.36% and Philippe Juvin, 3.13%. The three disqualified candidates have announced their support for Valérie Pécresse for the second round of voting, which will be held between 8 a.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Eric Ciotti creates a surprise

Finalist Eric Ciotti spoke first, after the results were announced, from a café in the 15e district of Paris. For this first round, participation reached 80.89%, with 113,038 members having voted online. Marine Le Pen, candidate of the National Rally (RN) for the presidential election of 2022, held, at the same time as the announcement, a press conference on the financing of its measures on immigration. She joked about the results of the LR party congress.

“I’m not sure it’s great news for LR to see their members being so divided. I also note that Mr. Ciotti comes in first, which in reality shows the revenge of the Wauquiez line ”, she advanced. The candidate was also delighted with Mr. Bertrand’s score, “The only candidate who has always expressed hostility, even hatred, towards the RN”, according to her.

The second round of voting will be held online from Friday, December 3, 8 a.m. Members will have until Saturday 2 pm to make their choice, before the winner of the vote is given thirty minutes later. Until then, the two finalists can speak to the media until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, before returning to their reserve period.
