This Saturday, February 5, 2022, Elizabeth II gave a reception at her residence in Sandringham to celebrate her seventieth year of reign one day in advance. All smiles, the Queen of England cut a cake and made a very funny joke.
On February 6, 1952, at the age of 25, Elizabeth II acceded to the British throne. As she prepares to celebrate her seventy years of reign, it is in her residence of Sandringham that the Queen of England gave a reception. In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “The Queen hosted a reception for members of the local community and volunteer groups at Sandringham House on the eve of her accession day. Her Majesty is the first monarch in history to reach the historic milestone of 70 years on the throne.” For the occasion, Elizabeth II was joined by members of the Sandringham Women’s Institute, pensioners who live on the Sandringham estate, West Norfolk Befriending and Little Discoverers, a charity for children with disabilities.
After meeting his guests, Elizabeth II asked to cut the first slice of a cake which had been prepared for the occasion by a local resident. Plunging the blade into the latter, she made the guests laugh by saying: “I think I can just stick the knife. Someone else can do the rest! Before taking the knife, the monarch had also joked that the decorative emblem on the cake was the wrong way up for her so it could be seen by the press. Amused, the Princes William’s grandmother and Harry slipped: “They can see it. I don’t mind, I don’t care… Well, I think I can probably read it backwards!“
Elizabeth II, will she celebrate her Platinum Jubilee?
Due to her health concerns, Elizabeth II had not organized an official reception since the beginning of the year. Fans of the royal family were therefore reassured by seeing her smile, dressed in an elegant light blue dress, adorned with a pearl necklace. Sunday February 6, 2022,it is in the intimacy that the widow of prince Philip will celebrate his ascension to the throne. Indeed, this date will also mark the seventieth anniversary of the death of his father, George VI, of a coronary thrombosis in his sleep, at the age of 56. The celebrations of the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II will therefore only be held from June 2 to 5, 2022. And for good reason, her official coronation took place on June 2, 1953, at Westminster Abbey.
