Covid-19 report: 464,769 new cases in 24 hours, drop in patients hospitalized in critical care

Despite a new record of new contaminations, the number of patients hospitalized in critical care continues to decrease, very slowly.

This Tuesday, January 18, 26,526 patients are hospitalized for a Covid infection in France, against 25,776 on Monday. A figure on the rise.

However, a slight drop is noted in critical care services, which currently accommodate 3,881 Covid patients, 32 less than the day before.

Record of new infections

On the other hand, the peak of contaminations has still not been reached if we are to believe the record figure announced today by Public Health France, which identifies 464,769 new cases in 24 hours.

But the difference between infected and hospitalized people confirms the less dangerousness of the Omicron variant, compared to the previous ones. The epidemic situation is also explained by the good vaccination coverage in the country, which reduces the number of serious cases.

Nevertheless, the health authorities still mention 289 deaths in 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths in France since the start of the pandemic to 127,554.
