The Occitanie Regional Health Agency (ARS) warns in its latest report on the progression of the epidemic in the region. Departments affected, saturation of resuscitation services, incidence rate … we take stock.
In its latest epidemic monitoring report, released this Tuesday, December 14, the Occitanie Regional Health Agency (ARS) no longer hides its concern. The region is being hit hard by the fifth wave, and the numbers prove it. “The number of new cases continues to increase. This is a sign of viral circulation which has reached extremely high levels in most departments”, indicates the institution.
All the departments of Occitanie concerned
The main indicator that alarms experts is that of the incidence rate. It went from 488.7 to 581.7 in one week. This Tuesday, December 14, the latest regional report shows 1,324 hospitalizations, including 275 in intensive care and critical care. A total of 5,473 patients have died in hospital, including 40 in the past four days.
Are all the departments of Occitanie concerned? The situation map distributed by the ARS shows that the thirteen departments are in the red zone. The incidence rates are highest in the Gard (716.7), in the Hérault (657.8) and in the Pyrénées-Orientales (688.3).
Intensive care 93% saturated
As a direct consequence of this worsening of the epidemic, the pressure on hospital services is increasing. The number of cases deemed serious has risen sharply over the past seven days, with an increase in hospitalizations of 17%. 40% of intensive care beds are now occupied by Covid patients. Resuscitation services which are 93% saturated, still according to the ARS. As for vaccination, 10 million doses of vaccine have been administered in Occitania since January 4, 2021.
