Covid-19. A first case of Omicron variant detected in Haute-Garonne

A first case of variant Omicron was detected in Haute-Garonne, announces the Regional Health Agency of Occitanie this Monday, December 13, 2021, in a press release. This is the first case of this variant from South Africa in Occitanie.

No worries about his state of health

“As soon as this possible case is reported, and without waiting for the results of the biological expertises, this person domiciled in Haute-Garonne was invited to respect strictly isolation and barrier gestures, his state of health does not cause concern ”, specifies the regional health authority.

Returning from a stay abroad

Operations contact tracing were carried out to identify the contact cases of this patient: “This person has not presented any risky contact on French soil since returning from a professional stay abroad”, indicates the ARS, without specifying the country from which the patient came, indicating that he wanted to respect “the confidentiality of medical and personal data”.

A dead in the United Kingdom

The Omicron variant was detected at the end of November in South Africa, it is now present in dozens of countries including France. A new variant considered to be very contagious, probably more than the Delta variant, which it should replace in Europe within a few months. This Monday, December 13, 2021, the United Kingdom was the first country in the world to report a death from the Omicron variant.
