Bordeaux-LOSC (2-3): Before Christmas, the operation is beautiful

BY MAXIME POUSSET

Thanks to a success full of mental resources in Bordeaux (2-3), the Mastiffs finished the first part of the season 5 points off the podium! Led by the score twice, the Lille have each time managed to equalize, first thanks to Benjamin André (33 ‘) then via Burak Yilmaz (77’ sp), before taking the advantage through Jonathan David (84 ‘), on this December 22, José Fonte’s birthday.

A last boost in 2021. On the day before Christmas Eve, the Mastiffs have an appointment with their very last meeting of the year, just to complete a fantastic year marked by three sporting exploits of the first order (conquest of the title of champion of France, of the Champions Trophy, then qualification for the Round of 16 of the Champions League). Opposite, it is a Bordeaux team severely hit by the 5th wave of Covid-19 which hosts a LOSC deprived of Jonathan Ikoné, Timothy Weah and Yusuf Yazici (injured), but also of Leo Jardim (recovery). Qualified in the Champions League and the Coupe de France, the Mastiffs now hope to collect points in Ligue 1, just to complete this first part of the season in more comfortable spheres in the standings.

From the first seconds of a match kicked off … by Santa Claus, the Bordelais press loudly and multiply their distant attempts. Without danger, until this cross came from the right and adjusted to the far post by Elis, who appears in the back of Tiago Djalo (0-1, 17 ‘). Just before, Burak Yilmaz, launched on the right side by Jonathan David, had yet sent a thrill in the Girondin camp, but his center had not found a taker (16 ‘). No more success for José Fonte’s off-card header from a corner (24 ‘) or the cross shot of an offside Jo Bamba from a few centimeters (27’). But a trend emerges: the LOSC sets foot on the ball, accelerates … And equalizes. Found by Sven Botman outside the area, full axis, Benjamin André tries a half volley that goes into the small net of Costil (1-1, 33 ‘). Bordeaux unfortunately regains the advantage just before the break. Served by Adli, Elis, yet eccentric, marks a pointy right (2-1, 45 ‘).

While Amadou Onana replaces Angel Gomes (46 ‘), we witness the start of the second act marked by many inaccuracies on both sides. LOSC managed to equalize through Burak Yilmaz with a header from a corner, but he was flagged offside (51 ‘). The Mastiffs monopolize the ball, put pressure on their opponent. On a corner, André’s header ends just above (56 ‘), as does Burak’s attempt at full axis (59’). A new Lille goal, from Jo David on a cross from Reinildo, was also refused for an offside position (68 ‘). The third attempt? It’s the right one. Launched in the part in place of Jonathan Bamba (69 ‘), the dynamic Isaac Lihadji is hooked in the area. Penalty … transformed by Burak Yilmaz with a perfect counter-footing (2-2, 77 ‘). Returned to the score, then in front of the scoreboard! Mentally strong, the Mastiffs take the advantage thanks to the inevitable Jonathan David. Well served by Lihadji, he continues right foot, left foot, then adjusts Costil (2-3, 84 ‘). What a return of the Mastiffs!

In the standings, the LOSC performs the correct operation for the week and goes back to 8th place, 5 points from the podium at the end of this first part of the season. It will now be necessary to confirm in 2022.

33rd minute. Recorded from a start to the match that can be described as a missed one, the Lille respond in a spectacular fashion. Lonely and not attacked at the entrance to the area, full axis, Benjamin André turns around while raising the ball. The half-volley is crystal clear and leaves no chance for Costil. This is the very first goal scored by LOSC from outside the penalty area, this season in Ligue 1.

Isaac Lihadji. 69th minute: double change for LOSC. Gabriel Gudmundsson and Isaac Lihadji are launched into battle. The second does not take long to strike on his right side. Five minutes later, he is fighting with Mangas in the box. In front of his defender, he is hooked. The penalty is indisputable and allows LOSC, through Burak Yilmaz (77 ‘), to equalize. Nice entry for number 19 from Lille, who also gave Jonathan David the third goal with a magnificent lightning pass, a few minutes later (84 ‘).

The Mastiffs will be back in competition next Tuesday 4 January (9 p.m.) by a 1 / 16th final of the Coupe de France in the form of a poster, in an enticing derby against RC Lens at Bollaert-Delelis. Then Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men will continue with the reception of FC Lorient four days later, Saturday January 8 (5 p.m.). Your tickets for this meeting, the first of the year at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium, are already available.
