According to a new Opinion 2022 survey conducted by our partner Elabe for BFMTV, “L’Express” and SFR, the Republican candidate is considered courageous and dynamic but not close to the concerns of the French.
She is one of the main opponents of Emmanuel Macron. Victorious out of the Republican primary, Valérie Pécresse is racing with Marine Le Pen to qualify for the second round of the presidential election according to several recent polls.
First guest of “France in the eyes”, a new meeting dedicated to the presidential campaign and presented by Jean-Jacques Bourdin, the president of the Île-de-France region is also at the heart of the new Opinion 2022 survey conducted by our partner Elabe for BFMTV, L’Express and SFR.
According to this new survey, three image traits (out of the thirteen tested) stand out in candidate LR: Valérie Pécresse is considered dynamic (55%), courageous (55%) and authoritarian (51%) by a majority of French respondents.
Considered less arrogant than Macron, Le Pen and Zemmour
The president of the Île-de-France region also has the least divisive image compared to Emmanuel Macron, Marine Le Pen and Éric Zemmour, the three other political figures tested by the survey.
Only 49% of French people consider her arrogant against 55%, 51% authoritarian, and 38% worrying, figures well below those observed among her opponents.
She is also judged to be the most competent quoted personality – tied with Emmanuel Macron – against the candidate of the National Rally (40%) and that of Reconquest (27%).
Ahead on health and the environment, behind on safety
Valérie Pécresse is the personality, among the four tested, whom the French trust the most to carry out a good health and environment policy (42% and 35%), just ahead of Emmanuel Macron (38% and 32%) and Marine Le Pen (36% and 30%). Éric Zemmour is clearly behind on these two issues (23% and 21%).
On the theme of the economy – purchasing power and employment – Valérie Pécresse (38%) is on par with Emmanuel Macron (37%) and Marine Le Pen (36%). On this issue too, Eric Zemmour suffers, in comparison, from a lack of confidence (24%).
Regarding security and immigration, Marine Le Pen is the personality with the greatest credibility (50% of French people trust her on these two issues), clearly ahead of Valérie Pécresse (41% security, 35% immigration) and Éric Zemmour (39% and 42%). Emmanuel Macron is comparatively the one with the lowest confidence (37% and 29%) on these themes.
Only 35% consider it capable of reforming the country
Valérie Pécresse is however considered less presidential than Emmanuel Macron: 50% of those polled believe that the current head of state has the necessary qualities to be president of the Republic against 38% for the candidate of the Republicans. By way of comparison, Marine Le Pen and Éric Zemmour are far behind with respectively 35% and 21% of the French people questioned who consider them presidential.
In addition, only 35% of those questioned consider it capable of reforming the country against 41% for Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen.
Sample of 1003 people representative of residents of mainland France aged 18 and over. The representativeness of the sample was ensured according to the quota method applied to the following variables: sex, age and profession of the interviewee after stratification by region and category of agglomeration. The interview was conducted online between January 14 and 17, 2022.
