Why not include iTunes movies in Apple TV +?

In 2020, Apple stepped up its service offering, notably with a pack called Apple One. A way to encourage users to subscribe to more services, thereby generating additional revenue for the business. But how can we go even further?

How to attract more and more people to Apple One?

Apple One is currently available as follows:

  • Individual: Apple Music, Apple TV +, Apple Arcade and 50 GB of iCloud storage for € 14.95 per month.
  • Family: same content as “Individual” for 5 members of a household at € 19.95 per month.
  • Premium: Apple Music, Apple TV +, Apple Arcade, Apple News +, Apple Fitness + and 2TB iCloud storage for € 29.95 per month.

Concretely, a person who is already subscribed to Apple Music gets TV +, Apple Arcade and an additional iCloud storage space for only 5 €. Services have a comfortable margin for Apple, so it’s a win-win package. The family variant is even more so for the customers, a little less for the company.

To go further with Apple One, the Californian manufacturer must obviously extend the offer, but also better integrate the services.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman proposes, via his newsletter, to launch a mini bundle with Apple TV + and Apple Music at € 9.95.

This would immediately spike the number of subscriptions to both services. Why would Apple do this? Because Apple TV +, with its relatively sparse content selection, slow season tracking, and lack of a benchmark catalog, just isn’t worth it for a lot of people.

But above all, Gurman imagines that Apple must integrate the iTunes movie catalog with Apple TV + to drastically expand the catalog and make the monthly plan much more attractive.

Another possibility would be to require a TV + subscription to access podcasts on TV + shows in the Podcasts app.
