In 1919, Mathilde was 19 years old. Two years earlier, her fiancé Manech left for the Somme front. Like millions of others, he is “dead in action”. It’s in black and white on the official notice. However, Mathilde refuses to admit this evidence. If Manech was dead, she would know! She clings to her intuition like the last thin thread that still connects her to her lover. A former sergeant may tell him that Manech died on the no man’s land of a trench called Bingo Crépuscule, along with four others sentenced to death for voluntary mutilation; nothing works. Mathilde refuses to let go of the thread. She clings to it with the faith of the coalman and launches into a real counter-investigation. From false hopes to uncertainties, she will gradually unravel the truth about the fate of Manech and his four comrades.
