Apple wants to buy Kingsman director’s spy movie Argylle for a hell of a lot of money

Apple is ready to hit the printing press for Kingsman’s daddy’s upcoming movie, Argylle.

In a few years, the Briton Matthew Vaughn has managed to impose his pop and pulp paw in the Hollywood landscape. Well helped by the comics of Mark Millar, Vaughn knew how to navigate in the world of the blockbuster with a very British elegance, (re) launching even three franchises in the space of ten years (Kick-Ass, X-Men: The Beginning, Kingsman : Services secrets).

While his friend Mark Millar preferred to go to Netflix in order to adapt his comics Jupiter’s Legacy for an uninviting result, Vaughn preferred to turn to Apple TV + for two of his future projects. First, Tetris directed by Jon S. Baird (Junk!) with Taron Egerton where he will officiate as a producer, and who looks back on the legal battle related to intellectual property issues behind the game. Argylle, spy film for which Apple is obviously ready to offer even the ashes of Steve Jobs if necessary.

Streaming platforms fighting for Matthew Vaughn

Indeed, the streaming giant would be ready to spend no less than $ 200 million just for the acquisition of the film. Argylle should tell the story of a successful writer suddenly recovering the memory of her past as an international spy. She will then have to fight against a past that will come back to haunt her, both literally and figuratively. Unusually, the film is based on an eponymous short story by Ellie Conway, which is due out in September … 2022.

The sum is staggering, but the investment could pay off over time with the establishment of a franchise (yes one more). In view of the first names announced at the casting, Argylle should not have too much difficulty in uniting the crowds since her cast includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Henry Cavill, Bryan Cranston, John Cena, Catherine O’Hara, Sam Rockwell, and even Samuel L Jackson we hope to see again with a hair on the tongue.

More generally, this acquisition is a clear message sent to the competition: Apple TV + has the means to join in the dance. His remake of The Aries Family, CODA, acquired from Sundance, could secure it some Oscar nominations, while its future catalog must already welcome Killers of the Flower Moon, the next Martin Scorsese, Emancipation Antoine Fuqua with Will Smith (bought at an exorbitant price) or even Kitbag by Ridley Scott with Jodie Comer and Joaquin Phoenix as the Napoleon-Josephine couple.

The King’s Man : Première Mission, prequel directed by Vaughn, should arrive on our screens by December 22, 2021. In the meantime, you can rediscover the trailer or take a look at the new cast member of Killers of the Flower Moon which makes us particularly happy.
