Three years ago, Kim Kardashian announced the launch of Kimono, her sculpting lingerie brand. The reality TV star was immediately accused of cultural appropriation, the name of his label referring to the traditional Japanese clothing known to all. After a mea culpa on his social networks, the name was changed in favor of Skims, a contracting word game “Skin” and “Kim”. At the time, nobody believed in the sustainability of the brand, many perceiving it as the umpteenth project of a celebrity who had already touched the ready-to-wear and the world of beauty. However, three years after its launch, it transformed its label into an inclusive symbol of women’s underwear, offering flesh-colored models suitable for all skin tones. An important issue while the lack of representation and products suitable for black skin, in particular, are denounced. The result: last June, Skims became the official supplier to American female athletes at the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. A consecration for the star, whose ex-mother-in-law Caitlyn Jenner won the gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympics.

Fendi x Skims, a collaboration inspired by the work of Karl Lagerfeld
But it is undoubtedly the next Skims collaboration that should tip the brand into the big leagues. Monday, October 25, the businesswoman revealed on her social networks the identity of this mysterious new collaborator. As the rumor said, it is the Italian house Fendi with which it co-created a capsule collection of shapewear-inspired clothing. “The idea for this collaboration came around a table with my studio teams in Rome,” explains Kim Jones, artistic director of the luxury label, in a press release. We were discussing several projects when suddenly, the women in the room killed each other and couldn’t take their eyes off their phones. They were waiting for the launch of the new Skims collection. It was there that I understood that we could do something together ”.
Inspired by a collection of Fendi archives first presented by Karl Lagerfeld in 1979, the British designer has imagined pieces reflecting the sexy aesthetic of Kim Kardashian. Bodysuits, leggings, bras, crop tops, jumpsuits and tube dresses in nude and pop shades are waiting for you. Shooted by Steven Meisel, the campaign unveils the sculptural silhouettes of Precious Lee, Tianna St. Louis, and of course the founder of Skims, in pieces made of reversible jerseys, recycled nylon and an all-over hybrid logo. “My vision for Fendi is to create a wardrobe that suits women of all walks of life, of all body types. A value that we share with Skims, explains the creator. Kim Kardashian does a lot for social justice in America, she is a hard worker and a mom who constantly struggles to juggle and do her best. »Available on November 9 at 3 pm, the Fendi x Skims line has already launched its website, fendiskims.com. It will also be sold in Fendi boutiques.
