The Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee of Var gets seniors moving. Thanks to the implementation of the Mobil’Sport Santé program, the elderly can practice intense physical activity adapted to their morphology. #IlsOntLaSolution

The Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee of Var organizes sports workshops for seniors thanks to the Mobil’Sport Santé 83 program. These sports-health activities have several objectives, first of all raise awareness and initiate these more vulnerable groups to a physical activity adapted to their physical state, reduce cardiovascular risks and finally prevent overweight … and that in a good mood!

These sports sessions are quite intensive, they are supervised and adapted to different audiences.“We always try to work with everyday movements like getting up and sitting down. We pay attention to the knees and that they don’t go beyond the tiptoes. If they go beyond the tiptoes, that means the person is going to put their full body weight on it and hurt themselves. ” specifies Thomas Leroy, Mobil’Sport Santé 83 facilitator.

Despite the intensity of the effort, this initiative does not seem to bother the elderly, on the contrary. They are determined and take pleasure in sweating. “It’s fun. We work while having fun and it’s much more enjoyable than an indoor gymnastics session.”

This traveling device was selected by the CNOSF and Paris 2024 and is part of the “Impact 2024” call for projects. It is free and open to everyone. For the moment, this initiative is offered in 8 communes of the Var, labeled “Terre de Jeux 2024”. It should soon be extended to the whole territory.
