Escape to Mas Candille in the footsteps of Picasso

In the heights of Mougins, overlooking the bay of Cannes, the Mas Candille hides in the heart of the pine forest. Its name conjures up Provence, its bucolic villages where life is good, and its terroir which never ceases to enchant epicureans around the world. The splendor of the place is an ode to the Côte d’Azur, festive, artistic and timeless. Mark Silver, master of the house, opens the doors to his haven of peace for the best getaways. Discovery.

This charming five-star hotel is perched in the heart of the medieval village of Mougins, which has won over painters and artists such as Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso, two true lovers of the Cannes hinterland. Staying at Mas Candille means walking in the footsteps of the Spanish master who left an indelible mark on the region. Moreover, the city is dedicating a course to the greatest painter of the 20th century in order to capture the artist’s visceral attachment to Mougins.

The charming property was originally a farm and an olive grove, receptacles of a rich history, but also of the devotion of men to the land that they have shaped for centuries. This house with a soul requiring a lot of maintenance ended up changing hands in the sixties with the aim of turning it into a hotel. However, the real renaissance dates back to the 2000s, when the new owners nurtured greater ambitions for this Provençal residence.

Located just 8 km from Cannes and its famous Croisette, and around 12 km from Grasse, capital of perfume, Le Mas Candille has all the potential to become an essential stopover, a place of healing.

After 18 months of renovations, the address is transformed into an elegant five-star hotel. The hard work and passion of the new owner, Mark Silver, soon enabled the establishment to win a Michelin star in 2005 thanks to the sunny cuisine of the restaurant Le Candille.

So many assets that have not escaped aesthetes in search of tranquility and comfort. This green setting regularly welcomes personalities visiting the Cannes Film Festival, delighted to take a break from the countryside away from the frenzy of the planetary event.

Discretion, calm and spectacular view

It must be said that the Mas Candille offers a spectacular view of the Alpilles. Its private park of 4.5 hectares of pine forest is home to large cypress trees, olive trees and more than 200 varieties of Mediterranean plants. A setting that promises tasty walks.

As for the bedrooms, the residence is organized around three distinct holiday resorts: the Mas, the Bastide and the Villa Suites. 38 rooms and 7 suites compete in elegance. The Mas, formerly the farm, has been revamped into a refined residence combining French chic and more rustic elements. Special mention to the private terraces from where you can admire the sunset.

La Bastide has a modern collection of generously sized rooms, full of antiques, while the Villas Suites have been designed to offer a discreet refuge and magnificent views. Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows let you gaze at the vivid colors and lights streaming across the sky.

Back to basics for Basile Arnaud, new chef of ‘Mas Candille’

After a Cannes getaway, Chef Basile Arnaud returns to Mas Candille to share his many inspirations with us. A la carte, a delicious beef Wellington and roast hake revealing the riches of the land and the sea, delight gourmets. Fruits and vegetables slowly ripened by the Mediterranean sun, bread baked every morning, locally raised beef and lamb and fish from the sea: pure happiness!

Zen attitude at the chic Chicissime

This is not Mark Silver’s first experience in the field: the entrepreneur once started his own fitness and wellness business in his native England. At Mas Candille, he has developed a menu based on aromatic and natural treatments by partnering with the ESPA and Phytomer brands, two references in the field. From one beauty ritual to another, we bask in the magnificent hydrotherapy pool before immersing ourselves in a whirlpool bath, open to nature.
