Crocus Technology Expands Its Portfolio of High Accuracy Isolated Current Sensors to Industrial and Automotive Temperature Ranges

The TMR XtremeSense® CT425 product family provides high precision isolated current sensing with common mode field rejection at 1 MHz bandwidth

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 26, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Crocus Technology Inc., the leading supplier of revolutionary XtremeSense® tunneling magnetoresistance sensors, today announces isolated current sensors CT425, CT426, CT427 and CT428 with a total error <1% over the full operating temperature range without sacrificing accuracy or bandwidth. High speed operation and precise output allow customers to optimize their system design for smaller dimensions and greater efficiency.

The CT42x family with a response time of less than 300 ns greatly simplifies the solution in EV recharging applications that use GaN (gallium nitride) or SiC (silicon carbide) transistors to improve energy density. Likewise, the CT42x family offers improvements in performance and size over traditional isolated current sensing solutions that use a shunt resistor, amplifier, and digital isolator to sense voltage and convert that signal to a measurement of running. The CT42x family directly senses current flow through the enclosure avoiding conversion errors and provides inherently faster and more accurate measurements. With a peak response time of 300ns, high power architectures such as the Totem-Pole PFC CCM can provide higher energy density solutions. The fast switching frequency of wide band structure energy devices (WBGs) requires a current sensor capable of detecting fast transients to avoid potential cascading failures. Integration into a compact SOIC-8 package also divides the total PCB footprint by 8 compared to existing solutions.

The CT42x family has robust built-in common mode field immunity that allows the device to reject over 99% of stray external magnetic fields without the need for external shielding while maintaining total accuracy of less than 1%. Crocus’ patented TMR technology offers a very high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by default which enables the high-resolution measurements required for precision control or monitoring applications.
