Simu Liu is about to add Saturday Night Live host to his impressive resume! The 32-year-old actor had a whole year after starring in the Marvel blockbuster Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings as the main character and the first Asian superhero. Learn more about the Canadian-born actor here.
He starred in “Kim’s Convenience”.
Before being cast into the MCU universe, he starred in a Canadian TV sitcom Kim’s convenience. Simu played Jung Kim on the CBC series, which followed a Korean-Canadian family who operated a convenience store in Toronto’s Moss Park neighborhood. The show ran for five seasons.
He’s from Canada.
Simu was born in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China on April 19, 1989 and immigrated to Canada at the age of five. He grew up primarily in the Erin Mills neighborhood of the Toronto suburb of Mississauga, Ontario, where he attended University of Toronto schools during his high school years (an independent school associated with the university).
In 2017, he acknowledged his 10-year high school reunion with a group photo, confessing that he doesn’t think high school is a “cake walk” for anyone.

He worked as an accountant.
After studying business administration at the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario, Simu landed a coveted position with the accounting firm Deloitte. He was employed by the company for nine months before realizing that this was not the right course for him, much to the chagrin of his mother and father.
“I think they knew I was going through a lot with the loss of my job. But they became more and more panicked when they realized that I was actually serious. We have had a lot of arguments about this. My parents felt like I was wasting my life, ”he told PEOPLE magazine.

In 2019, he also shared a photo of himself from an accounting textbook, begging his image to stop being used. “PLEASE STOP USING MY FACE FOR YOUR ACCOUNTING DOCUMENTS !!” I HAVE BEEN ACCOUNTANT FOR 9 MONTHS. I WAS ALWAYS THERE AND HATED EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY AT WORK, ”he said, adding,“ That doesn’t mean that bookkeeping isn’t a perfectly valid activity for some people! Live your best life !! ”
He’s an author.
Simu’s Memories We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story is slated for release in 2022. In the book, he details his own story of landing a role in Marvel and growing up torn between Canadian and Chinese cultures.

He’s musical.
Simu’s talents are not limited to playing the role of actor! He also sings and dances like a total pro. The 32-year-old showed off his vocal chops via YouTube where he teamed up with a singer-songwriter AJ Rafael. In the videos, he can also be seen playing the piano and guitar.
The Toronto native also started a band called LX4 in high school and went on to participate in the University of Western Ontario hip-hop dance team.
