Prince: what did the singer die of?

The American singer Prince has thrilled hundreds of millions of fans for almost 40 years. But what are the real circumstances of his untimely death at the age of 57?

Prince, pop star, rock star, producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist, was predestined to shine in the eyes of the whole world. Prince Roger Nelson, whose real name is, was born on June 7, 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. His career started in 1978, at just 20 years old, but it was with his title Purple Rain, released in 1984, that the artist would make himself known around the world. The album in which the title appears, has sold more than 20 million copies: a titanic fact for the time. Today, with streaming platforms, it is certain that the singer would certainly have far exceeded this record …

His fame extends mainly until 1994. However, he will experience a resurgence of his popularization in 2004 when he is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum (translated as: the museum and the pantheon of Rock and Roll). On February 4, 2007, in Miami, at halftime of the famous Super Bowl show, he performed his flagship title Purple Rain, in the pouring rain, in the center of the lawn. It’s crazy ! In front of tens of thousands of spectators, and broadcast in front of millions of televiewers, this concert is considered as one of the greatest moments of his career: a moment of anthology. Sadly, Prince will meet a tragic end as he will be found dead following an overdose of pain medication on April 21, 2016. His body will be found in the elevator of his Paisley Park complex located in Chanhassen, in the State of Minnesota. On June 2 of the same year, police revealed that he had died of an overdose of Fentanyl, an extremely strong opioid pain reliever.

But what about Prince’s private life?

Prince was not only a multi-instrumentalist, but if he could, he surely would have been polygamous too! Indeed, the man with multiple consecrations was a great womanizer. The Prince of Pop had relations with Vanity, a Canadian artist from 1982 to 1983, but also with Apollonia Kotero, an American singer, from 1984 to 1985. He also bonded with the American singer Sheila Escovedo from 1986 to 1988 , and maintained an affair with Susannah Melvoin until 1987. The artist will have other supposed relations, until her marriage in 1996, with a dancer he met in Germany by the name of Mayte Garcia. The couple had a son born in October of the same year named Amir. Alas, the newborn dies, of a deformation of the cranial box, after a week of life. The rock star will announce in 1998 the annulment of his marriage, and the divorce will be pronounced two years later. The interpreter of Kiss remarried in 2001 to Manuela Testolini, a former employee, from whom he divorced in 2006.
