ADAM Woodyatt has revealed that I’m a Celeb gave him a much-needed ‘escape from reality’ after his marriage to Beverly Sharp fell apart.
The star, who has played Ian Beale on Eastenders since 1985, married Beverly in 1998 and the ex-spouses have two adult children together.
But the couple decided to separate in the summer of 2019, admitting that the marriage had been over for a while.
Adam previously called his time on I’m a Celeb a ‘new start’ and now he’s opened up more about being on the hit ITV series.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain, the actor said the experience did him a lot of good and added he would be happy to do it all over again.
“It was just an escape from reality,” he said. “You left the world behind. It was peace and quiet. There was nothing they threw at me that I couldn’t do. I loved it “.
Fellow campmate Richard Madeley – who hosted the ITV breakfast show alongside Susanna Reid – asked if Adam would ever consider returning to Gwrych Castle in Wales.
“I would be back there next week if I could,” he said.

When he left camp days before the I’m a Celeb finale, Adam became emotional as he reflected on the “fresh start” the show had given him with hosts Ant and Dec.
When TV’s favorite double act asked if the star’s spell on the show helped him move on after his divorce, he began, “A little. I looked at it like…”
Then, struggling to hold back his tears, he stopped before adding, “Ooh you got me, you motherfucker.”
Adam pulled himself together and went on to say, “I had been watching this like it was going to be a fresh start. There are still a lot of things going on. Mentally, I got by. My head was in the right place to go, which is why I liked it so much”.
The Easties favorite then admitted that he was anxious to appear in I’m a celeb initially.
“I spent 36 years with a screenplay,” he said, before talking about fellow campmate Simon Gregson – Steve McDonald of Coronation Street.
“I’m not like Simon. He’s just naturally funny, I need someone to play, which is Simon. We knew each other a bit before and that helped – but everyone has been amazing.”
