After hosting the Tansition Forum for two days in Nice, the elected ecologists of the city of Alpes-Martimes stepped up to denounce a “marketing operation” and local “climaticide” projects.
This international event, which brought together researchers and entrepreneurs for the implementation of ecological projects, is strongly criticized by the elected Greens of the city of Nice.
For them, the Transition Forum was organized “with a great deal of communication, invitation of luminaries, local and European elected representatives, big empty phrases and ministers sent with great pomp”, so that Christian Estrosi, the mayor of the city, can “buy an ecologist image”.
In addition to the attacks they launch at the mayors, the demonstration raises, according to them, many questions: “Mr. Estrosi explains that in 2008, he wanted to make Nice the Green Capital of the Mediterranean! So why haven’t our greenhouse gas emissions fallen since 2012? Why is he in favor of the extension of T2 at the airport? Why does he not declare a moratorium on the concreteization of our Plaine du Var? Why is it subsidizing the Grand Prix du Castellet to the tune of 12 million euros? ”They asked.
“1.4 billion euros for the ecological transition”
So many criticisms that have not fallen on deaf ears. During the signing of the Nice Climate Agreement on Friday at the Palais de la Méditerannée, Christian Estrosi defended himself, specifying that as part of the State’s stimulus plan of 2.5 billion investment , 1.4 billion relate to the ecological transition for the benefit of the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis.
“Is this what some call Greenwashing?” , he asked. When we decide to decarbonize all of our buses by the end of 2025, with a 50% electric, 20% biogas, 30% hydrogen mix, and with a reduction in emissions of 14,900 tonnes of CO2 per year; is that greenwashing? ”
And to add: “When we plan to develop 70 hectares of green spaces in addition, to plant 1 tree for 1 inhabitant by 2026, that is to say 280,000 species, with the participation of all, is this again a futile action? Faced with the climate challenge, it is not words that we need but actions and you have your place in it ”, underlined the mayor of Nice.
