Despite the return of Bryson Pope and the first match of Carl Ona Embo, Caen Basket Calvados took a slap in Chartres, Saturday, October 16, 2021 (80-66). He conceded his second loss in a row after that suffered in front of Kaysersberg at home. Last season, the Caen had waited until March to suffer a second setback.

A decent first half …

Without Florian Thibedore, his best scorer last season, Caen cannot control his subject. Or not consistently, of the month. “When you’re under control, you’re pretty good,” observes Fabrice Thibedore. This was generally the case during the first half in Chartres. With a little more skill in free throws (4/10), the Caennais would have been ahead (35-35, 20 ′). Defensively, they were in the nails.

… then “we exploded”

Then it got tough. “We exploded in the second half. We no longer have a base in attack or defense and it becomes complicated. The third quarter, won 25-12 by the opponent, proved fatal. The CBC cannot win a game by conceding 45 points in one half. The former Caennais Yann Siegwarth was still untenable (24 points to 4/6 three points). The Norman attack is too weak to compensate for any defense. Saturday night, the Caennais delivered only 12 small assists.

It is insufficient, it is clear. After that, you have to see our shooting percentages. We do 3/13 at three points. It’s difficult to have assists when you do not put a basket … There is still a lack of sharing when you are a little rushed. We often fall into actions that are a little too individualistic.

Fabrice CourcierCoach of Caen BC

Very dependent on the performance of its playmaker Olivier Romain, Caen was unable to recover from his delicate game (4 points, 2 assists). Carl Ona Embo and Tom Wiscart Goetz’s counter stuck at zero. Kevin Bracy-Davis finishes best scorer without having shone by his address (13 points to 5/17, with 5 lost balls). Caen is looking for leaders in a group which, however, should have many.

An open championship

Before hosting Friday, October 22, 2021, the Caennais are seventh in the standings. Their luck may lie in this impression that their National 1 hen will be very open throughout the season. Nevertheless, the last two games are not far from causing some concern.
