Algeria remains firm on its positions. The powerful Organization of the Moudjahedin (ONM), the veterans of the war of independence in Algeria, called, Monday, October 4, to “review” relations with France, against a backdrop of diplomatic crisis caused by criticism of President Emmanuel Macron.

“It is time to review Algerian-French relations”, wrote the ONM in a press release released by the official APS agency. Algiers decided on Saturday “immediate recall” of its ambassador in Paris, in reaction to comments relayed by the newspaper Le Monde where Emmanuel Macron affirms that Algeria, after its independence in 1962, was built on “a memorial rent”, maintained by “the politico-military system”, and questions the existence of an Algerian nation before French colonization.

On Sunday, French military sources clarified that Algiers had de facto banned French military planes from flying over its territory as a response. The ONM considers that the revision of bilateral relations is “a priority” and “a national responsibility” and that it is urgent to “seriously think about an evaluation of all aspects”.

Official Algerian body, the ONM regularly urges France to “s’excuser” for the “crimes” committed during its 132 years of colonization (1830-1962) and which claimed the lives of more than five million Algerians, according to figures from the Algerian presidency.

“We do not accept this kind of statements, Algeria is a people, a nation standing, having proven itself in history”Algerian Prime Minister Aïmene Benabderrahmane reacted on Monday during a trip to Oran, in the west of the country.
